The reactor (1) has a horizontally arranged and rotatably mounted reaction cylinder (3) whose one end is supplied with a gasification material by a feeder (17). Non-gasified residue substance is removed at another end of the reaction cylinder by a discharge device (12). A supporting burner (6) is provided for starting and maintaining a minimum temperature in a reaction zone (20). A discharge port (9) discharges a combustible gas. The reaction cylinder is externally mounted with the ends such that the cylinder ends are sealed against each other by fixed housing parts (10, 19).
