The system (8) has a spar i.e. cross beam (1), adapted to drive out in vertical direction from a retention device (9), where the extension movement of the spar at an impending crash is initiated and the spar is locked in an extended position. The spar is designed as a hollow profile that is made of steel material, and is hardened locally in a latching region (5). Reinforcement regions (12) are longitudinally formed parallel to each other, such that the reinforcement regions are arranged next to one another. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a cross-beam for a rollover protection system.
