The method involves manufacturing a rail profile (2) by roll forming a heavy plate (4). The heavy plate is unwound from a coil and is continuously roll-formed. The rail profile is hot-roll formed, where the roll-forming temperature of the heavy plate corresponds before the roll forming of a microstructural transformation temperature of the rail profile. The forming rollers are cooled, after roll-forming of the regions of the rail profile on which a layer of material is partially joined. The joining process takes place by welding, preferably by continuous seam, pinch seam or inductive welding. An independent claim is included for a rail profile.
