The plant (1) has an upper fluid storage unit (3) formed with a set of pipes (2, 2') for storing fluid with a first potential energy. A lower fluid storage unit (5) is formed with a set of pipes (4, 4') for storing the fluid with a second potential energy. A communicating passage (6) is provided between the upper- and lower fluid storage units with a slope for conveying the fluid with kinetic energy from the upper fluid storage unit to the lower fluid storage unit. A converter (7) e.g. turbine, is arranged at the passage for conversion of the kinetic energy into mechanical or electrical power. An independent claim is also included for a method for converting kinetic energy of a fluid into mechanical power and/or electrical power.
