The mechanical face seal device has a rotating hollow shaft (1) mounted against a stationary housing and a shaft seal for sealing in an area between the rotating hollow shaft and the stationary housing. An arrangement is connected in an axial end portion of the hollow shaft and has a rotary drive (22). The seal is arranged with a seal ring (3) and a counter-ring (4) in an axial alignment between the rotary drive and a radially outwardly projecting flange of the hollow shaft.
