The method involves measuring the proportion of fuel in the lubricating oil (S) in oil flow path by using ethanol sensor (5). The ethanol sensor is arranged in oil passage which is connected with lubricating oil tub of combustion engine (1). The partial flow of the lubricating oil is conducted through the oil passage (3). The ethanol sensor is calibrated based on temperature-dependent curves. An independent claim is included for arrangement for acquisition of oil state during operation of combustion engine.
