The device has a carrier, at which a heating device is arranged. The heating device has a holding element for holding and transporting the plastic preforms and a heating unit (30), in which the plastic preform is inserted. A wall forms a barrier (S) of a storage space (6), where the wall is penetrated by the electromagnetic radiation. A sensor unit (36) is provided for detecting physical property of a non-contact plastic preform inserted in the heating device. An independent claim is included for a method for heating plastic preform.
