The method involves jointly holding multiple processing stations with a carrier having multiple openings or receptacles, in a regular two-dimensional arrangement. Multiple cylindrical containers opened at one end, are automatically passed through the processing stations for treatment or processing, with a conveying device. The edge portion of a support is pivoted to lower a total base area of the carrier, when the containers are handled and processed in the processing stations. The adjacent carriers are connected to each other directly, and immovable temporarily.
