The method involves determining an electrical energy requirement of an air conditioning apparatus (5) of an electric car based on a user group dependent mobility profile (9) and based on environmental conditions (10) over a thermodynamic inner space model (11). An operating distance of the electric car is determined based on the determined electrical energy requirement and based on an electrical energy requirement of an electric machine. Drive torque is provided at an output of the electric car and electrical energy storage by the electric machine. An independent claim is also included for a controlling device of an electric car.
