The dishwasher has a rinsing container providing a rinsing chamber, and receiving goods to be cleaned. A storage container (5) intermediately stores rinsing water (10). The storage container is flow technically attached at the rinsing container. A sterilization device (8) includes an UV-lamp (9), which is displaceably arranged within the storage container. The UV-lamp is designed displaceable in a height direction of the storage container. The UV-lamp is carried by a carriage, which is arranged on a threaded spindle (13). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an automatic dishwasher.
