Method for near-surface non-destructive testing of rotationally symmetrical workpiece with sectionally varying diameter by ultrasound, involves forming ultrasound test pulse in workpiece under defined angle of incidence
The method involves forming an ultrasound test pulse in a workpiece under a defined angle of incidence, and receiving an ultrasonic echo signal from the workpiece under the angle of incidence. A run time interval is selected as a function of a sound pat and angle of incidence of the ultrasound test pulse in the workpiece. The selected run time interval corresponds with a near-surface region, such as region of interest of the workpiece. The ultrasonic echo signal is digitized in selected run time interval. The digitized ultrasonic echo signal is analyzed on error signal. An independent claim is included for a testing device for near-surface non-destructive testing of a rotationally symmetrical workpiece with sectionally varying diameter by ultrasound.
