The hydrostatic traction drive (1) has two drive wheels (2a,2b) arranged on different vehicle sides, where a hydrostatic traction motor (3a,3b) is provided to drive each drive wheel. The inflow-sided pressure medium requirement of the former traction motor to be supplied by a drive pump (6) with respect to the inflow-sided pressure medium requirement of the latter traction motor to be supplied by the drive pump is changed as a function of the vehicle driving speed so that the two traction motors have different inflow-sided pressure medium requirement. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a hydrostatic traction drive of a vehicle.
