The mechanical data storage (1) has multiple signal lines (2a,2b,2c,2k) for transmitting mechanical longitudinal and transverse waves. The signal lines are divided into two types, which differ in a physical characteristic with respect to transmission of waves so that the signal lines represent an overall condition corresponding to the stored data on the basis of different types. The signal lines are partially or sectionally made of ceramic. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a device for storing and reading data with a component for transmitting and receiving waves; and (2) a method for manufacturing a device for storing and reading data.
