The functional unit (100) has (a) a basic structure (105), (b) two high-voltage connections (112) arranged in a first region (110) of the basic structure (105) for connecting an electrical machine (792), (c) in a second region (120) of the basic structure (105) mounted receiving means (122) for a separating device (124), wherein the receiving means (122) has two terminal poles (425) which are electrically connected to each other by means of the separating device (124) (c1) in a first operating state, in which the two connection poles (425) are connected to one another, a first electrical voltage is applied between the two high-voltage terminals (112), and wherein (c2) in a second operating state, in which the two connection poles (425 ) are electrically isolated from each other, between the two high voltage terminals (112) is applied a second electrical voltage, which is smaller than the first electrical voltage, and (d) a protective cover (250) which can be brought into a first position and into a second position, wherein (d1) in the first position, the first region (110) is protected against an operating engagement and the second region (120) is accessible to a user intervention and wherein (d2) in the second position, the second area (120) is protected from an operator intervention and the first area (110) is accessible to an operating intervention.
