The device comprises a transmitter (1), which emits a dispersing electromagnetic radiation (L) that detects two mutually spaced points (P1,P2) of an edge (K1) of an object (O) to be measured and is movable relative to the object to be measured. The transmitter comprises an interface, over which two separate cameras (2,3) are activated by the transmitter, to generate an image of the object edge detected by using the radiation. The transmitter is designed as a handheld device or as a laser, which emits a dispersing laser radiation. An independent claim is included for a method for measuring edges of an object.
