The method involves detecting the data representative to the direction of gesture of vehicle user. A direction vector with respect to a predetermined reference point is determined, based on the acquired data. An object is determined from a predetermined number of objects, depending on the detected direction vector and object position data with respect to the predetermined reference point and absolute position in a geographic coordinate system. An independent claim is included for a device for determining object.
