The device (110) has a cold-gas pressure reservoir (120) actuating a vehicle occupant protection device (130) and provided with pressurized cold gas. The cold-gas pressure reservoir is attached with a gripping part of a steering wheel (100) of a vehicle. The cold-gas pressure reservoir is utilized to control the vehicle occupant protection device that is adapted to initiate movement of the steering wheel relative to an occupant of the vehicle. A spoke (160) is arranged in the gripping part of the steering wheel. An airbag is accommodated in a steering wheel percussion pot.
