The method involves placing a valve element (22) of a solenoid valve (10) by a biasing force in a first position (11) and magnetic force into a second position (29). The current flowing through a magnetic coil (14) of the solenoid valve is determined during a period without supplying current. The time integral is compared with the threshold value such that to judge the state of the solenoid valve. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control and/or regulating device; and (2) a computer program of operating solenoid valve.
