Separate processing of a plate-shaped workpiece (1) with workpiece parts (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 3c), which is to be cut, comprises (a) determining collision risk of the workpiece parts, which is to be cut, in the cutting process, while maintaining micro-joints, (b) determining positions of the micro-joints, (c) determining a cutting sequence for cutting the workpiece parts and a free cutting sequence for releasing the micro-joints, (d) carrying out the cutting, and (e) carrying out the free-cutting process, after the termination of the cutting process. Separate processing of a plate-shaped workpiece (1) with workpiece parts (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 3c), which is to be cut, comprises (a) determining collision risk of the workpiece parts, which is to be cut, in the cutting process, while maintaining micro-joints, (b) determining positions of the micro-joints, (c) determining a cutting sequence for cutting the workpiece parts and a free cutting sequence for releasing the micro-joints, (d) carrying out the cutting, and (e) carrying out the free-cutting process, after the termination of the cutting process. The free-cutting process is carried out by dissolving micro-joint in the free-cutting sequence, and moving the cutting head along a second travel path. The positions of the micro-joints and the free cutting sequence are such that the second path does not extend freely over the cut workpiece parts.
