The method involves forming a heat protection device (20) to reduce the propagation of evolving heat (60) from and/or towards a battery (10), where the function of the heat protection device for reducing the heat propagation is activated only when the heat protection device comes into contact with the heat. The heat protection device is made to partly surround the battery both in an activated state and a non-activated state of the heat protection device, where the heat protection device includes a material, which increases in volume upon contact with the heat.
