The method involves performing the scan of the patient (P) under differentiation of the acquired attenuation data for two differing X-ray energy ranges. The tomographic image data is reconstructed for each X-ray energy range. The image areas that the material of the storage unit (L) is determined using the tomographic image data for two X-ray energy ranges. The image areas containing the material of the storage unit is removed before the determination of the contour of the patient. An independent claim is included for computer tomography system.
