The synchronizer has barrier synchronizing ring with shift sleeve teeth (6) whose wedge surfaces (12,14) are connected with wedge surfaces (24,26) of locking teeth (8). A switching gear wheel is connected and cooperated with selector teeth (10). Wedge surfaces of locking teeth having distal surface portion (28,30) is located at different roof angles. A roof angle of locking teeth is less defined than apex angle of sleeve teeth. The shift sleeve teeth and locking teeth are dimensioned and engaged along axial depth during switching operation so as to overlap in time.
