The method involves respectively determining the first value and second value of an electrical state variable of a magnetic valve (35) before or after the start and end of the movement control and before the assumed start of the movement of the valve element from first to the second positions in a first time interval, and from second to the first positions in a second time interval. The electrical state variable to the state of the magnetic valve is determined by comparing the first and second values. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) control device; and (2) computer program for operating magnetic valve.
