The method involves detecting pumping Rome signal of a sense element (112), and introducing temperature elevation phase with presence of undue deviation of the pumping Rome signal of a given norm behavior of operation. A heating element (122) is provided to heat a cell (116) with increased temperature during a temperature elevation phase and to heat the cells with operating temperature at a normal operation mode, where the increased temperature is higher than the operating temperature. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating sensor element for detecting a portion of gas in a gas measuring chamber.
