The method involves calibrating an ultrasonic device (12) by a MRI sensor for determining temperature in a volume area (8) of a body of a patient (4). The temperature, spatial temperature distribution and/or time course is monitored in the volume area, and a warning signal is provided when predetermined safety criteria are fulfilled. The ultrasonic device and the imaging sensor are monitored in parallel, where measuring data of the ultrasonic device and the imaging sensor are checked with one another. A mapping function is determined based on the data. An independent claim is also included for a device with a thermal treatment apparatus.
