A component has a zinc oxide-containing layer provided on a substrate and having a surface layer consisting of zinc oxide crystals with dimensions of 50 microns or less, and an intermediate layer consisting of an intermetallic compound having zinc and iron or copper. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) manufacture of component; and (2) usage of component in environment having temperature more than melting point of zinc.
