The device has preformed sleeve portions (16) made from a transparent plastic material, and a transparent plastic modeling mass (22) for filling an intermediate space (20). The plastic material of the sleeve portion and the modeling mass (22) is a material which is removable from a casting mold that is accepted by the tooth stump which is provided with the modeled sleeve portion. A set of prefabricated sleeve portions is provided with different inside- or outside diameter or different axial lengths or different outer sides. An independent claim is included for a method for producing a casting mold for manufacturing a primary portion of a dental-double crown.
