The machine (1) has a cylinder drum (6) provided with multiple concentric cylinder bores (8). A longitudinally displaceable piston (10) extends in a plane inclined to a cylinder axis of a drum running surface (16) of a swash plate (18) through guide shoes (12). The shoes are guided in recesses (20) by a recoil plate (22) that is engaged behind a retaining unit (28). The retaining unit is movably supported relative to the swash plate. The retaining unit is provided with a projection that is engaged behind an undercut of the swash plate.
