Use of metal ion chelates obtained by the polymerization of monoethylenically unsaturated mono-or di-carboxylic polymers to prevent the transfer of textile dyes from dyed textiles to undyed textiles or other color in the common laundry, preferably aqueous solution containing surfactant, and prevent the change of the color impression of colored textiles with the laundry, is claimed. Independent claims are also included for: (1) washing textiles using aqueous solution containing surfactant that contains the metal ion chelates; and (2) a laundry detergent comprising a color transfer inhibitor in the form of the metal ion chelate.
