The battery system (10) comprises a battery (20) with battery modules (21,22). A monitoring device (100) is provided for monitoring functional state of the battery. The monitoring device comprises an optical display device (40), which is adapted to count the activation of battery modules, to optically represent a successful activation of each battery module integrated into the battery for exchange, using a separate display element (41,42). An acoustic signal unit (50) is provided for acoustically notifying the successful activation of each battery module integrated into the battery.
