The chassis unit (10) has a multifunctional element (12) provided for causing a force impulse by a selectively controlled material deformation. The multifunctional element is partially formed as an electroactive polymer. The multifunctional element is also provided to dampen a movement and to convert kinetic energy into electrical energy. An adjusting unit (14) is provided to adjust the material deformation. An independent claim is included for operating a chassis unit.
