The method involves comprising an armature shaft (44) with an adjustable axial clearance, where the armature shaft is arranged in a housing (70) of a starting device (10). A flange sleeve (306) i.e. sliding bearing, is inserted into an opening of the housing. The armature shaft is placed in the flange sleeve, where a portion of the armature shaft protrudes from outside the housing. The flange sleeve is fixed in the armature shaft, where an axial clearance of the armature shaft is set by pulling the flange sleeve. An independent claim is also included for a starter device for turning an internal combustion engine.
