Loss (heat generation) is reduced in a capacitor precharge circuit so that the size of the circuit is reduced. The capacitor precharge circuit according to the present invention divides a power supply by means of a switchable capacitor voltage divider circuit and thus carries out a charging operation while reducing the voltage difference across the two terminals of the capacitor that is being charged (see FIG. 1).
