A process for the preparation of 2- (4 - methoxy carbonyl pyrazole - 1 - y) adenosine of the formula ia and 2- (4 - ethoxy carbonyl pyrazole - 1 - y) adenosine of the formula ib # # str4 # # by reaction of 2 - hydrazino adenosine of the formula iii and of the sodium salt of 3,3-dimethoxy-2 – methoxycarbonylpropen-1-ol of the formula va or of the sodium salt of 3.3 – diethoxy-2-ethoxycarbonylpropen-1-ol of the formula vb in combination with a solvent and an acidic agent.
