Fumigation medium (F) comprises an active ingredient mixture made of at least one first biocidal agent (A) and at least one second biocidal agent (B). At least one first active biocidal ingredient in the gaseous state has a lower density than air. At least one second biocidal active ingredient in the gaseous state has a higher density than air. The active ingredient mixture has a composition of 100-a wt.% of at least one first active biocidal ingredient and a wt.% of at least one second biocidal agent (in which a is 1-99, preferably 10-90). An independent claim is also included for fumigating the containers (3) or the buildings comprising providing the fumigation medium, and introducing the fumigation medium into the container or building or (a) providing at least one first fumigation medium in the form of at least one gaseous biocidally active ingredient with lower density than air in the gaseous state, (b) providing at least one second fumigation medium in the form of at least one additional biocidal active ingredient having higher density than air in the gaseous state, and (c) introducing at least one first and at least one second fumigation medium in the container or building.
