The device (1) has an applicator (5) that is moved with respect to two axes along an application path on an object (3). A left sensor (7) and a right sensor (9) are movably arranged for detection of data in the detection areas (13,15) of the application path. The sensors are activated together with the applicator. The activated applicator together with the activated sensors is arranged along the application path. An evaluating device is provided to evaluate the detected data of a paste-like mass applied along the application path from the sensors.
