The method involves providing an opportunity to activate a telephone function of a functional unit (12) to a user (10). A telephone connection with the functional unit is established through a telephone network. A predetermined gesture of the user, in which the telephone function is selected, is detected by a photonic mixing device (PMD) sensor (14) of the functional unit. The telephone function of the functional unit is activated with two fingers (22,24) of a hand (20), which leads to an ear (30) and to a mouth (32) of the user, when the predetermined gesture is detected. An independent claim is included for a functional unit.
