Adsorbent comprises an open-pore carrier material having a specific surface on which at least one compound comprising dithionic acid or its salt or polythionic acid or its salt is applied. An independent claim is also included for producing the adsorbent, comprising (i) providing the open-pore carrier material, (ii) providing a solution which comprises a solvent in which the compound is dissolved, (iii) applying the solution on the surface, and (iv) optionally removing the solvent.
