The method involves determining radius of the front side of the cornea keratometrically or topographically, where the radius of the rear side of the cornea is determined from depth scans or sectional images. The refractive power of the front side of the cornea, the refractive power of the rear side of the cornea and the total refractive power of the cornea are determined. The cornea rear side radius is not directly used as a measured value in the calculation of the total refractive power and is used with front- or rear side ratios.
