The module (24) has housing that is provided with a communication device for receiving and sending data along a safety-related communication path. A connecting unit is provided at the opposite side surface of the housing, for coupling to an field bus (22,23) of internal communication system formed with an safety-oriented communication path. The communication device and an adjusting unit are arranged in the housing to define a fail-safe identification address, and to supply the identification address in the fail-safe communication path. An independent claim is included for automation system.
