The rivet (10) has a sleeve (18) sectionally surrounding a riveting mandrel (12). Workpieces are nonmachiningly cold transformable by rotation of a self-piercing riveting mandrel head (16). A through hole for the mandrel and the sleeve is introduced in the workpieces. The mandrel and the sleeve include respective length regions (34, 40) and other length regions (36, 42), which are attached to the former length regions and have a small diameter relative to the former length regions. The mandrel and/or the sleeve are conically tapered from the former length regions to the latter length regions.
