The multi-layer metallic flat gasket (1) has two sealing layers (31,32,34) with a medium passage opening and an opening for receiving a connecting element (6). The opening has a central recessed area (40), which reaches through the sealing layers and an edge area (38,39). Straps are provided facing in the direction of central recessed area. The straps of one sealing layer lie in the recess in sections in the other sealing layer, and the connecting element in the form of a rivet is guided through the central recessed area and its flanged edges (6a,6b) in the fixed state lie on the straps.
