The method involves forming a measuring region on a printing plate in a printing machine by a control element, where the measuring region exhibits an existing relationship between color amount and dampening medium amount (F-m) to a processor. The measuring region is measured by a measuring device i.e. colorimeter. The dampening medium amount necessary for printing is computed based on determined measurement value and the existing relationship of the processor. The dampening medium amount is adjusted in a dampening device of the printing machine.
