The method involves checking leakage of component (12) of a vehicle (10) with respect to a water inlet by a checking device (14). An ultrasonic transmitter (16) is arranged at the leak inspection region of the component and the leak inspection region is subjected to ultrasonic waves. The presence of material boundary in the leak inspection region is confirmed by reception of ultrasonic waves by a receiver (18). The reflections of the ultrasonic waves are detected at the material boundary from the receiver. An independent claim is included for a test arrangement for testing tightness of component of vehicle.
