The method involves performing first and second knocking sequences detected by a pressure-sensitive sensor by a vehicle steering wheel. The first knocking sequence is compared with an activation knocking sequence stored in a memory unit by a data processing unit. A control unit is activated by activation knocking sequence. The second knocking sequence is compared with several stored knocking sequences that are associated with vehicle function. The associated vehicle function is executed by control unit, if stored knocking sequence is present.
