The device i.e. gauge (1) has a plate-like base body (2) including two end faces (6a, 6b) and two longitudinal sides (5a, 5b). A first projection (4a) extends from one end face of the base body, and a second projection (4b) extends from the other end face of the base body, where the end faces have various edge contours with respect to a plan view of the base body. A third projection (4c) extends from one of the longitudinal sides of the base body, where all the projections have different dimensions.
