The battery (1) has a temperature control device for temperature-control of individual cells (3) by liquid (4) that passes through the cells arranged within a housing (2), where the cells have a same temperature value. The liquid evaporates during a preset temperature of the individual cells. The evaporated liquid is supplied to a heat exchanger (5) i.e. condenser, for condensation. The liquid is electrically insulatingly formed. The housing is formed in liquid-tight manner. A relief valve (6) is provided between a housing interior and a housing exterior. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a battery.
