Dual fuel common rail systems and methods of transitioning from a diesel only to a dual fuel mode of operation

A dual fuel common rail system can operate in a regular mode in which a relatively large charge of gaseous fuel is ignited by compression ignition of a relatively small amount of injection of liquid diesel fuel. The dual fuel system can operate in a single fuel limp home mode in which liquid diesel fuel is injected at higher pressures. In transitioning from the single-fuel limp home mode to the regular dual-fuel mode, accumulated leaked liquid fuel in the gas nozzle chamber of each fuel injector is expelled and burned in the corresponding engine cylinder.
