The method involves providing the signals of both pressure sensors with a positive pressure pulse during a collision and comparing the signals of both pressure sensors to each other. The signals are reviewed at a negative pressure pulse. A defect of a hollow body is detected, when the positive pressure pulses of the signals of both pressure sensors differ to more than a predetermined amount and when one signal of the two pressure sensors has the negative pressure pulse of predetermined strength.
