The dryer has a drum rib (5) equipped with a laundry drum (2). The laundry drum is driven by a drive motor (3). An illumination device illuminates an inner space of the laundry drum. Multiple luminous elements (7) of the illumination device are arranged in a region of the drum rib within the laundry drum. The luminous elements are secured at an exterior wall of a drum rib. The luminous elements are arranged in a recess in the wall of the drum rib of the laundry drum. A layer sensor i.e. acceleration sensor (6), is arranged in the region of the drum rib.
